Hymenolepis Nana

Sill,?Captain Stewart begins his note on Hymenolepis nana, in the June number of the Indian Medical Gazette, with the words, " Ah far as the literature at the disposal of the present writer permits of a statement, Hymenole/iis nana has been recorded on one occasion only from India, nnmely, by Capt:iin M. Foster lleaney from the Ward a district. (6)." Number (6) in Captain Stewart's references runs thus :?" lleaney, M. Foster, Ind. Med. Gaz. 1912, No. 2." If Captain Stewart will turn up this paper of Reaney's which he has quoted he will find these words, " The ova [of H. nana] were first described as occurring in the stools of natives of India by Major Clayton Lane, I M.S. (/. M G., April 1904 and April 1S09); he failed, however, to obtain any strobila. Captain Davenport Jones, I.M.S. (I. M. G., July 1910), found seveial strobila in an European child. Colonel Manatvala, I.M.S., also found the eggs in a patient in the Nagpur Lunatic Asylum." As a matter of fact I found the strobila in a man late in 1909, but as I did not publish the observation, the credit of being the first to do this belongs to Captain Davenport Jones. This in no way affects the priority of the observation of the ova in man 12 years ago. Yours, etc..
